Vietnam-China Relations: a Difficult Search for Agreement
On February 20, 2019, a Russian-Vietnamese academic discussion was held at the Institute for Far Eastern Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS IFES) in the format of a round table devoted to relations between Vietnam and China, and timed to the 40th anniversary of the "border war " between them in 1979. It was opened by the RAS IFES Director, professor S.G. Luzyanin, D.Sc. (History).
Presentations were made by V.Ya. Portyakov, Editor-in-Chief of the journal Far Eastern Affairs, D.Sc. (Economics); Dr. Do Tien Sham, honorary professor of RAS IFES, former director and now scientific director of the Institute of China, Academy of Social Sciences of Vietnam; A.S. Isayev, leading research associate, RAS IFES, Ph.D. (History); Nguyen Thanh Kung (SRV), member of the RAS Institute of Economics, Ph.D. (Economics); Yu.M. Galenovich, chief research associate, RAS IFES, D.Sc. (History); Ye.A. Kanayev, professor of the Higher School of Economics, D.Sc. (Economics); P.Yu. Tsvetov, associate professor of the Diplomatic Academy of the RF Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ph.D. (History); A.N. Karneyev, Deputy Director of the ISAA MSU, Ph.D. (History); G.M. Lokshin, leading research associate, the RAS IFES Center for Vietnam and ASEAN Studies, Ph.D. (History); Ye.V.
